Ingredients (serves 4)
500g Lamb Mince
1 large onion, chopped
2 carrots, diced
1/2 pint lamb gravy
Worcestershire Sauce
Tomato Ketchup
For the topping:
0.7kg potatoes, peeled and cut up
Splash of milk
Knob of butter
Put the potatoes on to boil. They will be mashed, so can be cut up quite small in order to cook quicker.
While they are boiling, brown the mince in a frying pan, along with the chopped onion. Once it is has browned all over, drain off any excess fat, then add the diced carrots and fry for a further 2 minutes. Pour in the gravy, and add ketchup and Worcestershire Sauce to taste. Be careful with the Worcestershire Sauce - it tastes much hotter than it smells, so be sure to keep tasting as you add it. Turn the heat down and leave to simmer while you make your mash.
Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them well. Then add a splash of milk, and start mashing. Add in a knob of butter, and keep mashing until a smooth texture is achieved.
Tip the mince mixture into a lasagne / casserole dish, and cover with a thick layer of mashed potato. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes, then place under a grill for 5 minutes to brown the top. Serve with green vegetables.
